Thanks for all the comments.

The SPG I was looking at is a 2" brass and glass, it just has the rubber boot. The guy at the shop was telling me that, "Everyone is using these." Which from reading, researching and from what I've seen used I did not think that his statement was accurate, more a sales pitch.

You know....every piece of gear in their shop it what "everyone" is using :D

Thanks.

Chalk me up as one more for no boot. I baby my gear so I have not had a problem. Biggest thing would be the chance of dropping a tank on it. I do not think a boot would help then anyways.

I keep my plastic one on my 4th deco/stage reg. If I need more than 3 bottles, I'll take it. It's not ideal, but not something that would keep me from diving.

well the smaller ones are plastic

Thats what I meant by only 2.5" gauges. Does anyone know why they changed?

In addition to the no boot preference, does everyone also prefer 2" gauges? It's a small detail but the large gauges bother me..

I use B&G (2.5") for backgas (doubles and singles) and plastic (1.5", I think) on stages/deco regs. The only one I've had crack was a B&G one.

No boots on any.

The plastic bodies are def worse than the metal bodies. I've cracked one before.

I was on a boat several years ago when a diver went OOA at 70ft due to his plastic SPG's needle sticking to the face. Luckily he 32 years old and perfect shape and made it to the surface...
