All the pictures I have seen with the SPG the clip is tied on with cord. Why do people not run the hose through they eye of the clip? Also miflex SPG hose DIR or not?

The clip needs to be on a cuttable/breakaway connection in the event it ever got caught or hung up on something.

There have been enough reports of the miflex hp hoses bursting that I will never use one. Plus, they're more expensive. Seems like a lose lose situation.

I know someone who had personal experience with the crimped end coming off. I'm in no rush to try one.

Another reason not to use miflex, for me at least is the hose is way to thin, especially through dry gloves. A regular HP hose works fine and is cheaper.

The new MiFlex Braided hoses - Not so much...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I took the bait.

I bit the hook.

Thought I'd give it a try.

I bought a 7-footer. I've done about a 20 or so dives on it. And here's the deal:

1. Very high cool factor. Kinda neat looking.

2. Very flexy. Not that it matters, but OK.

3. TERRIBLE on the scooter. Just flaps in the breeze. I'm serious - I'm zooming along and my long hose is going boing boing boing. It is more resistant in the water, and with all that flex and low mass, combined with the higher resistance, it sux for scootering.

4. Also - I don't like my long hose being this flexy. I prefer it to be stiffer as I always know where it is, where it will land and what its going to do when / if I drop it. A standard hose is very predictable in its trajectory. With this thin, flexy hose I have no idea where to look for it when its not where its supposed to be, so I can't recover it as fast as I have to look everywhere - both in water when I butterfinger the thing or don't clip it off when I should, and when I'm gearing up on the tailgate or a on a boat bench. Its a pain.

I'll be selling it very soon and going back to a real hose.

My guess is that the clip will be sliding to much and there is no way to cut away the clip... The HP miflexes are also thin and difficult to work with with thick gloves And it's easy to cross-clip the stage on that thin hose. Besides there is just no need in extra flexibility on the HP hose, you do not have to bend it much, it's all going straight down and you just bend it under the armpit when you look at the SPG.

I bought a miflex 22" LP inflator hose and it works fine. Since the inflator hose is under strain this should solve a problem. Since the LP miflex doesn't seem to have the crimping and failure issues with the HP it doesn't cause them (and you don't notice the flexiness at all either way).

Miflex LP hoses have worked fine for 200+ dives (mostly wrecks) and I'd not give them up.

The HP hose on the other hand, I can do without. Have maybe 50 dives with it, and as others have said it's too thin. Not much thicker than a D-Ring, and easy to miss and mishandle with gloves on. In fact, it's actually possible to clip a deco or stage onto the hose if you're not careful.
