I swam with a whale last year for 15 minutes. Soulful experience. Tell me do the mothers exhibit any protective maternal behaviors like most mammals?
 
I can only dream of one day having such a dive. Until then, get settled Chris, get settled!
 
I keep looking at the size difference between the baby and the adults, and am amazed how something that big fits inside mommy... much less gets out!

I wonder if baby's head is squishy, so it can squeeze out easier. It looks more "pruny" than the adults.

Protective yea but not aggressive. during encounter where the mother is used to you and very relaxed if you get too close she will reach out with her pectoral fin and as if to say "that's close enough", or in a couple of cases she gently pushed pushed me away. this is only when along her side. several times I have been "face to face" less than a meter away for several minuets. just sitting there floating like a log.
