Lobster photo was taken at Landing Cove, just outside of a small cavern that contained several dozen HUGE lobsters. The cavern had lobsters hangin on the ceiling, the walls, everywhere! Looked like a scene out a sci-fi horror movie. Unfortunately, it is all "Look But Dont Eat" as the Landing Cove area is the oldest preserve in the Channel Islands National Park. There were lobsters in nearly every nook and crevice you looked. A veritable lobster nursery.

That's the way I used to find them "out of the reserves" 20 to 15 years ago. Not on every dive, but certainly during a weekend outing to Santa Cruz. No more. Commerically fished to virtual extension. It's a great picture though.

Wow! Sounds awesome! What was the water temp? We have never been out in winter.

Depending on who's gauge you were looking at, water temp was between 53 and 55. Though I was diving dry, the rough and tumble play time with the sea lions on my second dive forced a leak in my neck seal, so my subsequent dives I was wearing a "damp" suit and was feeling a tad chilled.

Winter offers the best visibility in our waters. Well worth the investment in either a dry suit, or extra layers for your wet suit (like a hooded vest).
