I'm going to go look at spearguns on Thursday at a shop that is going out of business. Instead of me buying what _I_ think is a decent speargun and realize that I screwed up once I get into the water I'd figure I'd ask people in the know.

What are the different types? What are the disadvantages and advantages of each type?

Thanks

There are lots of choices, depends on your style of diving (scuba or freediving) and the type of fish you are after. You should check out a Spearfishing Specialties Commercial speargun (avail. in various sizes). Pnumatic is also an option. Might want to check out www.spearboard.com for further information and lengthy discussions on just this subject.

Feel free to drop me a PM (I live in St. Pete), too many choices and issues to discuss briefly.

Speargun Question

From what I gather there are 3 major brands worth looking at:
AB Biller, JBL, and Riffe

The Riffe is generally the most expensive and considered by most to be a "competition-type" gun. But if you can get it for a good price...?

For starters I'm mainly looking at JBL. Tampascott is a good one to talk to about spearguns.

Don't waste your time or money with anything but a Riffe, they are worth the money. I have 4 of them, they are great guns.

Depends on what you want to do .1 shot a day at big fish, get a Riffe.15+shots a day anything but a Riffe unless it's an enclosed track and those are still inferior to Biller,JBL and SpearfishingSpecialties.90% of Florida commercial divers use either a 54 Biller or SS.They offgas more fish than most people elsewhere ever see, there may be something to it.TampaScott and FredT really know spearfishing...... ask them. Also www.spearboard.com has a nice community of family oriented spearfishers.

I have a SS 52 rhino with commercial muzzle.it is a very good gun .I also have a JBL .If you buy a JBL make sure it has the XHD trigger .
