I finally had time to finish reading the new Spearfishing Magazine, the "Shark Encounters" issue.

4 or 5 of the shark articles are really good; some of the best info I've seen in print.

Also interesting stories on the Freediving Nationals, a fish focus on kingfish, the Hatteras Open, drift diving techniques, a feature on old salt Ray Odor, and more.

It's good reading material for the holidays!

You can see the cover and contents pages here: http://www.spearfishingmagazine.com/

That was one of the best issues on sharks. The personal stories, especially the Bahama's one. It was amazing in how calm he kept, even with a significant portion of his leg bitten off.

There was a lot to learn from that issue, great stuff from SpearMax.

Talk sure is spreading on this one it must be good! I haven't had the chance yet to stop in the LDS to pick one up yet. I sure hope they last till I'm able to pick it up

Is Spearfishing Magazine available only by subscription, or is it distributed to bookstores? Occaisionally a copy is left at my gym, and I've enjoyed reading it.

You might be able to pick one up in your local dive shop. If not you need to ask them to think about carrying some. I just put mine down just a few hours ago and I still chuckle every time I think about the Old Salt interview.
The interview was with Ray Odor and the time he was recollecting was back in 1947 He said Diveing was pretty much unheard of around him in those days so the made do and built there own equiptment and even tanks. The Regs was a round wooden ball with surgical hose coming through it and air flow was controlled by biteing the hose.

Anyway they came up with a new design to dive deeper and stay down longer or so they thought. They filled there tanks with pure Oxygen :no And preceded to do a 50fsw dive. After exiting the water Bill his brother just fell over and Ray walking up looking over him trying to figure out what was going on himself just falls over:rofl3: I know this isn't really a funny situation because of the dangers a person might try with lack of education now days. But this happened like I said in 1947 and Ray tells it so well:D
