I was hoping someone would talk about a place in the Gulf with its clear waters and white sand beaches. Oh well. When I spear I am the hunter killer so I dont mind rough conditions, but I want to stay shallow so I can stay longer. Many years ago up in Destin at the East Pass, there was a dip in the jetties about 50 feet from shore and the water flowing thru that gap caused a lot of crabs to hang out there. It was a matter of holding on to a rock and pulling them out. There were also a lot of flounder there. I didnt have the eagle eye of my brother when it came to spotting them, so I would cheat and swim to the bottom and wave my arms to scare them. Then follow them and spear 'em like the guy who picks up paper. All this in 40 feet....

We also used to cruise the shallow waters of the intercoastal there and pick oysters right from the sand. Shuck some as we found them, and build a small fire on the shore and cook the rest. Probably cant do that anymore...

Mostly, I want to be able to pack up and head to a place, dive, and drive back home. But, I can see that I will need to use boats for awhile until I get some exp and meet other divers.

Still trying to figure out why I live in the one place in florida that is the farthest you can possibly be from the water.
