Hey Ross,

You've been a member for almost three years but this is your first post -- now that's self-control.

If you're going to post more, though, you'll need an avatar picture. (I know, I need to get around to one too.) Could you edit this to fit?

:-)
....are you guys doing in this picture????? Some kind of interesting pre-dive conditioning?? Creating a residual static charge to make your drysuit easier to put on?? Or does it make you more sensitive to iron debris when seeking new wrecks? "The human compass needle!" PLEASE make this your avatar, Ross...I can't wait to hear the responses!

I had nothing to do with it, but all I can say is ... now you know why torpedo rays follow Ross around ... :-)

Mea culpa! I didn't know this would stir things up worse than the rains have to the SoCal shoreline ;) .
I just thought it was funny that John missed the fish, that's why I included it in the dive report. I have no qualms with fishing, as long as it's legal. It's up to each persons preference on what should be taken from the sea.

Ross-O:
Although tasty, Sheephead are the easiest targets on the reef.
Almost as easy as urchins. ;) Can you say uni! :11ztongue

SNOBORDJON:
But until then, You are all invited to have "sheephead handrolls" at my place with "sake bombs" to wash 'em down!
Count me in! I'll bring the Asahi or Kirin.:D

Oooo, that had to have hurt!

MaxBottomtime:
I was shooting video at Santa Barbara Island once. I had a large male Sheephead looking at his reflection in my dome port when all of a sudden a spear rocketed through him. When I got back on the boat I asked the girl who shot him if she realised I was trying to get a picture. She said she couldn't pass up such an easy shot.
:censored:
Apparently, she felt that her shot with the spear was more important than your shot with the camera and that she had the "right of way" even though you saw it first. I wonder what she'd have to say if someone deflected her spear so that they could get a photo.

I have no problem with hunting, but I do have a problem with rudeness. I think she was rude.

It also seems that you were probably pretty close to the fish, since it was looking at it's reflection in you dome port. I'd have been pretty POed if someone speared a fish that close to me.

Suddenly, wreck diving seems reasonable and predictable...I'll buy the beers on Sunday so someone can tell the full story on this one!
Just click your heels together and repeat, "Make the rain stop...Make the rain stop..."
(Whoops...I think we hijacked again....)

Ah, I will confess to having taken 2 sheephead. Then it became boring. There is no challenge in it any more. Flatties, kelpbass, white sea bass. Rise to a challenge!

I have a bet with a sometime dive buddy who seems to only take sheephead. (Yes I give him massive amounts of fecal matter about it!) I am going to catch a good sized male sheephead, alive and unharmed, and release it when we get back to the boat. Perhaps that will alert some folks to the fact that it's a little too easy.

Let the man harvest what he wishes.

From reading this tread, sound like we need another dry spell.

Happy Hunting ;)
