Can someone explain how a fish will entangle you? Seems either they would swim away fast. And if they get close you would stab them ?
I've never spearfished, obviously.

Most spearfishing is done with a shaft that is tethered to the gun with strong cord with a tensile strength of something between 300 and 700 lb strength. A diver holding the gun after the shot, can sometimes not spin fast enough to prevent a fish from encircling him with line. Ever seen a dog on a leash rub around someone and then knock them down, tripping them with the rope connected to their collar?

Once the fish has you wrapped up, it can tie down your arms, go around your neck and then when it has wound up all the line around you, the fish is pressed against your body and conceivably slamming you in the face with a tail attahed to 40 lbs of muscle in a death struggle.

It is exciting and fun to shoot big fish, but it can go from Classical music to Rock n' Roll in a few moments.

It is EASY to get in trouble.
