Tonite at the gym swam next to a woman that just did Ironman Canada in 10:33 (that's ten HOURS of racing) and qualified for Ironman Hawaii. We did 2000 yds next to eachother... was on cruise control mode, not pushing hard, and hung near her for first 750, then slowly lost a lap by the end of the 2000.

Buddy watching from above that knows her said, "yeah, she was just going slow working on technique" His consolation was "well you weren't going fast either" yeah, not for 2K i'm not (since I can't). :crafty:

After the 2K, as I was sitting in the jacuzzi, she did a few 50s, swimming and kicking, and THEN started the 3000 yard masters workout with the masters class...... :11:

I have decided to overcome my intimidation and start swimming with the masters class at they gym, starting next Tuesday. We'll see.......

The whole point of swimming in a triathlon is to
1) Keep up with the front of the pack
2) Do it in the most efficient way possible as to save lots of energy for the bike and run.

The nice thing (from what I've been told) about the Masters Swimming clubs is that they have swimmers of all abilities and levels, so you do what you can and then move up into the 'faster' lanes as your ability grows. Sometimes I think that swimming slowly and mindfully is a lot harder than swimming your brains out, but it is so very worth it.

ya, in my experiance with triathlons(limited to 3 years) the swim is the shortest, so the least significant, in a sprint triathlon, the swim is usually only 10 minutes, when the hole race takes about 1:45 or so. And ironman races are ridiculous, about half of my traithlon team went, i dont race that distance, just olympic and sprint.
