Is the 3.0 spare air tanks exempt from needing to have hydro ever 5 and visual every year? I know a lot of people dont like these so lets not get started on all that LOL.
Someone told me these are exempt...can someone confirm or set the record straight about this. Thanks.

Well, since they are filled off of another SCUBA tank, a dive shop would never have to see them.

A lot of people that have their own compressors don't do visuals or hydros on their own tanks.

It's not a law, it's more of an industry standard practice, so my guess is visuals/hydro not required.

I know that they can be hydro'ed, however I don't know if they are required by DOT or any other standards.

Though they are a 3AL cylinder they are not required pursuant to cfr 49 180.209 (a) note 1 which states;

1 Any cylinder not exceeding 2 inches outside diameter and less than 2 feet in length is excepted from volumetric expansion test.

thanks Dale...thats EXACTLY what I was told by a buddy at work but I couldnt find that in writing but you just confirmed 100% what I was told. Thanks.

Spare Air Model 300 are 2.25" diameter and require hydro testing every 5 years.

Only the old 1800psi tanks are hydro exempt.
