Kim, staying civil is something that you should consider as well.
If Scubautah says that he didn't enter the contest, it would show of lack of respect on your side to dismiss him in the way you have done.
Are you implying that he's lying to us? Because this is how I understand your response.

And another thing, if this was noted as a problem back in December, why wasn't it straightened out then........especially since you claim members privace takes priority over your commercial advertising income.

Well, I know that those two emails in a yr really got me freaked out. Next thing you know, I will be getting email for Viagra...
Already 1 email is to much if you've not asked for it. How much is too much and how much would be OK?
Again, if Scubautah never entered a contest and received the emails nevertheless, then something is wrong. Don't you think so?

Well...Given that he signed up Aug 2005, he might of signed up for the contest and doesn't remember.

I have gotten 2 emails from 1 company. So there is no huge increase in my spam from my being here on SB for waaaaaay to many years. So if they say they are not selling my email....well I happen to believe them. If fits the facts that I can see.

An Explanation was given. I have not gotten spam for other entities associated with SB.

So I really don't see anything wrong here.

Maybe they just sold Scubautah's email addy?

Oren. I made it very clear that if he didn't enter the competition then he had a perfect right to complain. I simply pointed out that the last time this came up - with the first promotion from N.Lights - all the people who complained were subsequently found to have entered the competition. Again now in this case it would appear that his wife did using his account. I was simply saying that there had to be a reason as far as I know because there is no other way for someone to get an email address from SB. I'm not calling anyone a liar or suggesting that there is something intentional occuring - just posing the question "Are you REALLY sure?"
As far as the competition goes - I don't know but I find it completely normal that a business who sponsors a competition by providing prizes also asks if they can use some of the entrants details for marketing or promotional purposes. That's been an element of every online competition that I've ever seen. I've already stated twice now that SB is changing it's policy on that so that you have to opt IN rather than opt OUT. However, when that happens I think that SB will be almost unique in that regard as far as free online competitions go. No one is forced to join any competitions and SB has never given away any private information from it's members.
Those are simply the facts.

Once more......if this is the case then as I already said he should contact NetDoc. There are accurate records of who entered and who didn't so it's a no-brainer to check and see what happened.

dang, scubautah, for someone with 24 posts you sure come on hot

so you got one email you didnt' want. it's not a federal case. if you value
your privacy so much, don't use the internet

otherwise, get over it and let's move on
