I brought down my SP350 with Ikelite housing for the first time. Didnt encounter any problem on handling the equipment. After two dives my 256mb was completely used up..I viewed the photos I took and deleted some out-of-focus photos. This gave me space to take pictures of the sunset. When I took photos again and viewed it, I noticed that the previous photos I took were all gone! I tried browsing it in the camera and in the Olympus Master software..but to no avail..except for the last 3 sunset photos..all other photos were gone.

From my knowledge, i only erased the out-of-focus photos one by one..and not erasing them all ( including videos I took) completely. So what did I do wrong? Or what can I do next time to prevent this from happening again. :( Is there a way to retrieve the photos from the card?

hhmm....i never had this problem before...next time there is a way of locking your photos taht it could not b erased by accident...it's some where in the book manual.

Did you use the quick view or try to erase them on the viewing mode? Normally, if you are in your recording mode, and you use the quick view to go to the picture, you can erase individual pictures by pressing the delete (lightning bolt) button next to the power button without affecting other pictures. You just press quick view again to get out of that mode. If you are in viewing mode, the only way I can see is to go to card menu mode and use the all erase, which will erase your whole card. I have selectively erased many pictures using the quick view and the trash can button without problems. Hope you do OK with the retrieval programs.

It's possible that your FAT (file allocation table) could have been corrupted. Was the battery low or did the power cycle when you were viewing/deleting images ? That happened to me recently. I was previewing my pics through the camera's LCD display after a dive when the camera suddenly flashed the low battery icon and powered down. I thought that I had lost all my pics.

Regardless, the missing images are likely still on the card. You can rebuild the FAT with any of one of a host of image recovery utilities. There are several available as freeware or demo-ware. I've had success using a freeware utility called "Digital Image Recovery" by Alexander Grau (just do a search).

Good luck.

thanks..will have to check the manual :D

I heard Kim Komando talking about some software she used for problems with memory cards in cameras. Maybe you can search her site for some help.

Photo Rescue may be able to recover your images. The great thing about this software is that you can try it before you buy it. It's not expensive and well worth trying.

Thanks for the tip, I tried Photo Rescue. I was able to see my "lost " photos but cant download them unless I buy the software :( Problem here..most digital image recovery uses a windows platform..i use Apple.

Its exactly what I did, I used quick view to delete unwanted photos. But somehow I managed to delete the photos.

Thanks, Larry. Im still on a look out for a software for macs.
