I have the same problems with my x650, if you don't mind would you please send me the info on adjusting as well. I have had it in a few times but I have not seen any improvement.

To the OP, I dove a R190 as a primary for years and I liked it. I have never had a problem. I have the Mk17/X650 combo and I do not love the x650 because of the freeflow issues. The x650 is the only piece of SP gear I have ever had problems with. I would get something else if you have not already purchased it. You can't go wrong with the Mk17 first stage.
 
To breathe, I prefer the R190 for the adjustment and the bigger diaphram.
To pair with the x650 I would choose the 295, as the 190 octo cover bleaches extremely fast.
It is also possible to upgrade the 295 with the adjustment option...
