My camera always indicates 86 RAW shots on a 1 gig card. I can usually squeeze another 2-3 HQ's out of it when I get the blue screen on RAW. On the Oly flash-I might get better results on macros with the FL-20 by continually using the diffuser, but so far, I haven't figured out a way to keep the stinkin' thing on there. The slightest current, surge or camera movement knocks it off its little pegs-let alone trying to adjust the strobe position for my next shot. The Sunpak gave me way better lighting while it worked. I do have to admit, I like the housing system better on the Oly. Like the camera housing, the flash housing seems to be simple and relatively trouble free.

Larry,

Do you have a link to pics of your "Homemade cheapo tray"? I just picked up this camera and the flash housing is on it's way, I'm lookingfor ideas.

Thanks,

It's in the gallery, which isn't up right now, and also a picture in an earlier post here or in the Sunpak thread. I'll try to put one up on a current post if you can't find it.

Edit: It was on page 16, but the thumbnails aren't working, so I'll put a copy on photobucket and attach it to my next post. Mine is a knock off of Gilligan's, with some mod's, so if you go to his website you can get basic instructions on a similar set-up. Essentially, take a piece of 1 x 1/8 x 4ft. aluminum and bend it in a vise so you have a U shape wide enough to fit the camera and leave you room for an eyelet to hook to your BC plus room for your fingers to reach from the handle and still be able to open the housing. Soap and slide two pieces of 1" rubber fuel/water hose from Orchard Supply for handles. Bend the top with room to attach whatever you want to put there plus your loc-line or ultra-lite mounts. Put a screw or rivet through it to form a square. All the rest is just drilling holes to hang any other stuff you want on there. Your last hole is for the camera, so that it goes where you want with everything else hanging there and you can reach it with your finger from the handle. I'll provide more details with the next post. Maybe I'll Photoshop the materials and instructions on there.

Hope these are helpful

Okay, I am making progress

I sort of figured out the MyMode, but not 100% sure I could do it again without messing with all the menus.

I dunk tested my camera, let it sit in a big bucket (5 gal) for about 45 minutes played with all the buttons, and desiccant packs inside. No leaks everything seems to be in order. If we get more rain I might take it out in the rain and play with it with the camera inside (we got 6" today with lots of local flooding courtesy of TS Alberto).

Maybe you can take UW pictures in your basement! I'm SO glad I live in earthquake country. Every 50 years or so we have a big one. No tornados. No hurricanes. No floods. No sleet. No white outs. Just a good foundation massage every once in a while.

I beg to differ...California land of 4 seasons fire, flood, earthquake and riot! The 1994 quake (Northridge) was the final straw that let me to my path to escape! I was through the 71 (San Fernando) quake as well.

However I press on with my camera and housing, I might just have the process down in time for my trip, but need to get the flood insurance, just in case.

OK, I ordered my camera today from B&H, should get it next week and get it wet sometime during the weekend of the 4th. No strobe yet, one thing at a time.

Larry, I typically dive in Socal, similar conditions to Monterey, what kindof power should a strobe have at minimum for the conditions, I have no knowledge of strobes. Would a Ikelite DS50 be enough? I just picked up a new client, a politician, when I get his website done, I'll use the $ for a strobe more than likely.

Who do you guys use for insurance for your camera gear?

I have no Insurance YET, will probably sign up this weekend. I am probably going to go with Depp (Divers Equipment Protection Program, and insure my gear while I am at it). They have a special flood ryder (but I am sure others do as well).
