What is ironic is that this whole miserable fad of having web based firmware update programs is because the manufacturers thought it was too difficult for the user to download a binary image onto their harddrive, unzip it and then run a local install utility against it or use a terminal program. The most you had to worry about is the power going off at an inopportune moment. So, now we are forced to update (via a real-time network connection that just may not be stable at any particular moment) a critical component that if munged makes the camera unusable and unrepairable by the user. Idiot proofing indeed!
