SP-350 Firmware Update Failure

What is ironic is that this whole miserable fad of having web based firmware update programs is because the manufacturers thought it was too difficult for the user to download a binary image onto their harddrive, unzip it and then run a local install utility against it or use a terminal program. The most you had to worry about is the power going off at an inopportune moment. So, now we are forced to update (via a real-time network connection that just may not be stable at any particular moment) a critical component that if munged makes the camera unusable and unrepairable by the user. Idiot proofing indeed!

even though sp350 is not around anymore. DO u think batterey companies will stop producing CRV3 or RCRV3 as well?

CRV-3's have been around alot longer than the SP-350. They're used by just about every camera manufacturer on some model or another. They're not going anywhere.

Has anyone had an update failure occur

Mine failed during the update and now the camera is inoperable


Any suggestions bar sending it to Olympus

Morning , i have had the same problem and Olypus replced it no charge. the main problme i see is that u have to be onbline to do the firm ware up grade. have mailed olypus and asked them y u cannot download and then install which would make lore sense, still no responsefrom them

what happened with me was that had a wonderfull windows freeze during the installation.

capeofstorms, i don't know if u can the rechargeable crv3 or not. i was just lucky to find a brand in Indonesia, unlike in the US where u can multiple brands of this type of batterry.

Hello, guess I was lucky, just upgraded my new SP-350 with no problems at all to version 1.4 After reading all these threads I was really afraid, so I made sure all the stars were in the correct position, zen was there and all fingers and toes were crossed along with a short prayer to the god of olympus. It worked.

Now if I can only figure out how to use all the features of this camera I will be ok.
