Seriously - I know they are clean but diving a reef next to a nuclear power plant is not high on my wish list. Leave it to the fish and the three eyed lobsters.

Two friends in Dallas, TX wanted the cheapest OW course they could find. For $200 each for the course, the four open water dives were in a Nuclear Power Plant outlet lake. The water was very warm and there was zero visibility due to the algae. I'm not convinced they were able to demonstrate any skills to gain certification.

I would imagine that a long beach boat could be talked into diving it. I would be curiuse to know how much life/growth is there.

Same here....being that it's a new reef, I'd kind of like to wait a bit before I dive there, that way there's plenty of time for life to grow and fluorish.

It's not all that new. Construction started in 1999.

I flew down the coast today and noticed quite a lot of kelp in that area. I didn't know exactly where to look but I bet that is what I saw. I will be heading down again next tuesday so I will have another look.
