Well almost 3 weeks ago i had to take out my wisdom teeth, I was very worried it wouldnt heal in time for my april 3rd dive trip. It seems to be fine already.. Thats great.. But now my throat is very sore and it seems i'm losing my voice.. My question is can i dive like this? Should i not worry? I have 5 days till the hawaii trip. So i'm trying everything in the book to heal myself. Any advice would be great....

Thanks in advance

Its better to wait until you're feeling best before diving. The ST may be only part of an issue and enlarged adenoids may cause your ears to block and lead to equalization issues. You also don't know if it will get better or worsen on your trip. Viral ST are self limited, but if this is related to a bacterial infection, it will worsen and need antibiotics.

i started Zithromax on Thursday April 1st. Do to no cough or sinus problems it must be bacterial infection. I'm now on the 3rd day of antibiotics i feel better, but still a little discomfort in the troat. As I'm writing this i am in the airport in san fran. waiting for the flight out to oahu. I took a flight from NY to here and my ears did not stuff up any more than usual. ( i'm not sure if this makes any difference for diving).

Thanks for the info Saturation.

You're new to diving, right? Yes, that's matters a lot, and the fact that they didn't give you a problem is a good indication. Taking a decongestant like Sudafed an hour before diving is a common approach, but if you're not used to the med, try it a day earlier - to watch for reactions.

(Above is amateur advise only, not to be taken seriously.)

Airline cabins are kept at 0.6 ATA or thereabouts, and during your descent, you will return to 1 ATA. The difference, say 0.4ATA is your 'dive' that your ears needs to equalize too. So this is a good test of your capacity to equalize.
