The USVH website says that their housing will manual white balance with the extended controls, but I can't tell if the HC1 has MWB or not. The A1 is nice, but a little too pricey at this time.

Thanks for the info!

Yeah, a lot of people don't want to pay the extra cost of the A1 over the HC1. I think MWB is worth it, but there are plenty of people that disagree. Just thought I'd throw the option out there. You may want to do a little research and watch some video shot with manual white balance before deciding.

USVH can manual white balance with camcorders that do it over the lanc. Many of Sony's latest camcorders don't have lanc control for MWB. They do it through the touch screen or an assignable button.

The Amphibico is a nice housing. It has plenty of room to grow with the ability for additional lenses, diopters, filters, although with tax/shipping it will be above your budget.

Whatever you choose, you should be happy. HD video looks great. I am just waiting for something to go wrong with my current rig to justify the upgrade. :D

Ron's right, it's not possible with the HC1 as the MWB functions are on the touchscreen. Warren needs to update his webpage - I first thought USVH was able to do that also. There was a recent thread here or on Digital Diver with an announcement from L&M that concluded that it was impossible via lanc, even with their custom electronics. So two options if you want MWB are Ikelite or Ocean Images, they have a manual control rod that pushes the touchscreen from the back.

Interestingly I've recently read of several people getting good results by powering down the camera at depth and then letting it WB against a white object as it goes through it's startup routines. I'll be trying it in 2wks, will report back after May1.

Amphibico will add the manual MWB control to their EVO for about $200. So you don't have to buy the EVO Pro to get it. But you'll still need the A1 to use it.

That is interesting...it makes sense in theory.

I have seen results and it does work. As good as on the fly?..probably. It just takes a bit longer. Of course there are those that say that auto is just about as good. Pick your poison.

Yeah, everyone has an opinion, go with what works for yourself.

One guy told me it was impossible for manual white balance to work as well as auto. It wasn't worth argueing, our eyes just told us different things. :14:
