First aid for stinging things, remove the stinging things,(tweezers, forcepts) then apply hot water. (as hot as you can stand as long as you can stand it without burning the skin, )

Bristle Out Lol!!:rofl3:
I wonder if you would treat it like a jelly sting? That's what the pee jug is for!!

You can try that, but suspect you will be in pain and covered in nasty stuff.

As they are actually sticking rather nasty things in you... I have never heard of any "treatment", other than avoiding them.

Hot water works for anything with a histamine reaction...but never seen that work with these guys.

I would put this in the group with sea urchins and fire ants....avoid if you can... then suffer like a man if you don't (regardless of your actual gender).

This is not actually a stinging thing..more of a stick tiny needles in you sort of thing.

Sort of like playing with fiberglass...

I have lots of experience with fiberglass and never been bit by a fire worm. for fiberglass I usually alternate hot and cold water in the shower till it stops itching, these thing hurt (i've been told).

Treat for allergy. The sting isn't all that bad, but the toxins can do a number on you. I had pain in the center of my chest and difficulty breathing after my encounter. I fear them more than anything in the ocean.

Got a bunch in my aquarium if you'd like to try your remedies on yourself
:D

Painful

last time I was on the tracy, i came up and noticed a nice size worm crawling on my wing...they are everywhere down there...particularly plentiful on the ancient mariner too

haha. Were diving the AM on saturday. Thanks.

I'll stick with vinegar. I have no experience with fireworms (I like hydroids myself), but I've been told by a few people that have "snuggled-up" to the cute little worm that applying vinegar on the affected area as soon as possible does about the same thing for a fireworm encounter as it does for hydroids. Supposedly, it helps prevent any of the bristles that haven't fired their venom, from firing. After that, hydrocortisone helps with the itching.
