Some threads seem to be sensored.

In a way, Reefsavers and Shaka are kinda right. I've had a few threads pulled or heard of threads being pulled b/c others were "offended". I feel like these people should grow up. How do you get so offended by reading on a friggin scubaboard?

Welcome to the "United States of the Offended". You can't make everyone happy, especially with politics and religion.

They pulled a thread last a few days ago because someone referred to the Coast Guard as "Nazi's". (they will prob edit that same "word" out here... or filter it... or something, so if they do, which I understand. It(the word) was reffering to Hitler's political party affiliation.).

I grew up in the "Deep South" where heritage is a part of life. But some stupid racial group took something that was a part of southern heritage, the Confederate flag, and used it as their flag. Now it's affiliated as a racial sign, regardless of its history in this nation.

Now I think that what both of the above groups did was completly wrong. Unfortually countries go extremes, and even go to war over this stupidity.

While I think that people here are sometimes too sensitive or too easily offended, I do like the fact that the Moderators of Scubaboard keep this a "clean, peaceful, family type atmosphere" that is safe enough for all, kids included.

At the same time, I sure don't want to see Scubaboard, which I really love to visit, to go to the "gutter" of the Usenet group of rec.scuba.

It take a lot of time by many people at Scubaboard to monitor all of this. I know I couldn't do it. I didn't think the above referrenced thread should have been "pulled" because of one word, which is in the dictionary of all things, but they did edit it and put it back. I was suprised however they they "temporary banned" the user for several days for that one word, especially when there are much worse threads that go on-and-on-and-on....

my 2 cents worth.

I'll buy your 2 cents for a dollar! I too want to keep this site for all to enjoy and that goes to prove my point further. Our children will eventually have to make a decision about the world we live in. The enviroment and nature is demenishing quickly.
This is florida chonch divers isnt it? These are important issues for all floridians.
Our children need to know about the problems now so they can start figuring a solution. Our generation is unable to restore the damage simply because we wont be here long enough. What we can do is change the things we do and share information with each other and encourage our children to do the same.

Sam,
The mods on this board are doing a pretty good job keeping it clean. Some times I think some people get offended a little too easy... but, that's today's feel good society that is causing that.
I do not have a problem with my 13 year old daughter lurking on this board. I know the content on this board is suitable for her to read.

IMHO Scuba Board is about the cleanest yet vibrant board I've come across.
On some boards a thread will just vanish because of the whim of the moderator. Others have all sorts of trash thus rendering the constructive potential of that board useless.

Thus far I've been very impressed with the moderators on SB.

I too have had a thread pulled. I didn't really mind after it was explained why. Nothing bad I just didn't understand one of the rules. My mistake.

The best part was that the mod who pulled it wrote me a short note explaining the reason and was pretty cool about it. I think they are doing a fine job.

Joe

me too.... I've even had a picture removed that was approved by a few Mods prior to me posting it. I was annoyed at first, but ya know, Im happy that I can let me 13yr old come on here and not worry about what she see's... Life goes on

I'm still confused about what aspect of ScubaBoard is being sensed by what sensor :06:

:banghead:

It's simple. You can't say things like "I was talking to God the other day and..." but calling someone a putz is fine. The magic line to be crossed is just in between.

And whatever you do, dont post something non-DIR in the DIR forum, even if it may stop someone having an accident
