phevo, there is no diving in puerto galara. there is a nice beach there called white beach although its not that white. sabang is where the diving is. stay on big la laguna beach which is walking distance from sabang. sabang beach is polluted but big la laguna is much nicer and more quiet. check out cambell's beach resort and get one of the 3 penthouse rooms. great view. I dove with scandi divers which is a small dive resort but I was impressed. campbell's is nothing special but since you are a backpacker it will probably suite you just fine.

I recommend the Banana Moon if your on a budget great value for money.

I re-validated there after a long break and have had a few friends do the full advanced open water course. All were very happy and we all keep going back.
