I dont see a good way to predict the clarity in the bay. A heavy rainstorm will silt it up for up to 3 tide "flushes". And I do mean flushes since a couple times a summer nearby town's treated sewage dumps into the river on overflow. It stinks and the water is lime green in color and no vis. Otherwise sub 15mph winds helps from stirring the mud up. I drive over to the L-street scuba entrance stairs the day I plan on diving. Dove there this Wednesday. Maybe 4 ft vis. Saw some undersize fluke and one large 3" seahorse. Most of the crabs I saw were dead. It is not more than a few ft deeper the farther north you go toward the head boats, but the bottom gets much cleaner and sandier. That would be technically a maintained channel and I beleive out of bounds for scuba. Next time I will work harder on my compass navigation so I can go down and surface near the safety of the the sailing club docks. If my buddy cant go sometime I will post.
