As to the pony bottle.... I read it again and still missed the joke... Hope this clears the air a little.....;)

Jim...

Sorry my lame attempt at humor didn't lighten the mood here. Maybe it was too much of an inside joke about Dan and his pony (no offense at all intended to Dan)

Anyway, I have nothing against solo diving and have done so from time to time. I thought the OP should not do so in this situation and made a suggestion in response to his question.

Sometimes it seems a lot of us on this board get our egos way too wrapped up in these discussions, or somehow lose our sense of humor. The guy asked for input and people gave it. Not all agreed. No need for any heartburn over this.

Here is the line: ...and maybe borrow one of Dandy Don's pony tanks :-).

See the :-) ? It's one of the unsanctioned emoticons.

I didn't go back and reread every post, But don't recall any solo divers calling this dangerous or outside the scope of what he should be able to handle.... The ones telling him " NO " have no solo diving knowledge of their own....

Two major problems with this statement Jim:

1) You have no idea of my diving experience and I never told the OP to go for it.
2) I doubt that anyone here knows what the OP "should be able to handle."

I will repeat my views. I believe that a person should be self-reliant. I believe that a person should be able to properly respond to being separated from the buddy/group and either find the buddy/group or surface and find the buddy, get on a boat, get to the shore or similar as appropriate to the situation.

If a person is going to dive solo they should have the experience/training/equipment to mitigate any additional risk that is incurred from solo diving.

Wow what a read this has been. Now what I like to do when I stay at villablanca is first preposition my moped down at scuba club, jump on back of my wife's moped and go back to the bar across from the old scuba mau/opals dream and take a long leisurely solo dive back to scc, exit..have a couple dos Equis
, then jump on the moped and scooter back to villablanca with a big grin on my face. Only thing that blows it is that damned stupid helmet I have to wear on the scooter!

So you drink beer before driving your scooter in a town where tourists are maimed on scooters all the time and you think the helmet is stupid?

Seems like this is kinda the elephant in the room on here.

I am a novice diver. I remember my classes, telling me never dive alone. Yet, a lot of people seem to do this on Cozumel. I am staying at a place with unlimited shore diving. I have never shore dove, I hired the DM to give me a lesson on my first day, but that will hardly qualify me as an expert. If you stay close to the docks, stay shallow and use common sense, is this a big of a deal as some make it out to be? What are your experiences? I have fears of being chopped up by a prop (I know how stupid that sounds, then I read about the idiots who went under a cruise ship).

Flame, advise, insult, encourage. I want as much info as I can get.

Thanks.
Has the diver made it back ? :callme::chuckle: Or did I call it wrong and he went into the water solo :nailbiter: and was never heard from again.... :sos::worried:

Jim....

I've done some solo shore diving in CZM but would not recommend it for the novice.........Remember, CZM has current & who knows how you'll handle it under solo conditions---lol along with other 'things' a newbie might encounter.......Safer(?therefore) better for you to spend a couple hundred or so more on an extra boat dives IMO that to maybe read about you here under another forum--DD is good about spotting these 'happenings'--FAST........good luck, let us know what you decide......
