I never claimed to be a good buddy, PiFi. You have, on several occasions. Why are you so coy about sharing your knowledge?

I think this is a great topic and posted a thread. Please, feel free to contribute.

Maybe you haven't claimed to be a good dive buddy because you realize you lack the necessary skills to be a good buddy, dherbyman?

Drawing correct conclusions from available data really isn't your forte, is it?

Your posts lead me to believe that you are dangerous. Your self contradiction, confusion of basic issues, sweeping generalities and empty statements support this conclusion. It's not a dig or slam, it's an observation. I don't mind you questioning my skills, but placing yourself as a good example would be laughable, were it not so potentially dangerous.

I'd still dive with you. You're famous, after all.

I might on a 20ft warm water reef dive. But that would be it.

My husband loves underwater videography. So I am, in essence, a solo diver. It used to really whiz me off.
As a result I have taken steps through additional training and redundancy to be safe. I am probably a more competent diver than I would have been otherwise because of it.

You know whats funny, is 100 dives from now everyone in this forum will be diving solo.

I'm sure you're fine in the water but I feel I'd have to keep a close eye on you, for a number of reasons. ahem. Anyway, your interpretation of things not presented leads me to think you see things that are not there, which might be dangerous UW. But I would dive with you because your wife appears very nice, from the pic, and I'd want to be sure to get you back to the boat safely, for her sake.:eyebrow:

I went on a dive in Venice, FL. to look for sharks teeth and they told me I would be diving solo. I was a little freaked out at first but it didn't take long to figure out that it isn't bad. I was very relaxed. I had a great dive. As long as you know your limits and don't push it I think it is fine. You just have to do what you should be doing anyway. Pay attention. Don't expect your buddy to pull you out of a bad situation. Don't put yourself in one and you will be fine.

Interseting idear.... rhino effect.

Hey, PF, when are you coming down to Southwest Florida to dive with some of us? So far no hurricanes to muddy the waters, though I did get a rough seas adventure 2 weekends ago...

Note about solo diving. Anyone wishing to pursue master diver, dive master, etc., is expected to be able to have the skills to be able to dive solo. Photographers are almost exclusively solo divers who sometimes dive with groups more or less as a social activity. Spear fishing is solo diving done as teams. This is a unique skill set and mind set type of diving activity that doesn't fit every situation, but those who do generally understand and accept the risks involved.
