I've made a few solo dives, though I wouldn't recommend it with my equipment set up (no redundant air source, thus the few times I've tried it, I've been very much "stupid diver").

I've also done a couple pre-arranged "same ocean dives". This is primarily when I dive with spearfishers, since I'm a photographer, and they don't like my sloth slow dive style and I don't like it when they shoot my subjects.

Generally, I prefer diving with a buddy, not just for safety but because I've found some really great buddies, and I find it more fun to dive with them, plus some of my buddies are incredibly good spotters (had an insta-buddy on the Monterey Express find a Spanish Shawl five minutes into a dive, and I have NEVER seen one north of the Channels).

Plus, with a couple exceptions, every solo dive, with a few exceptions, seems to have something go incredibly wrong. Nothing that diving with a buddy would actually help (flooded camera, stuck inflator, etc), but like mother nature is telling me to watch my butt.
