It makes me appreciate coming back to Hawaii, PNW, California, BC and getting a pristine state park all to ourselves.

But the guides over there are totally worth it. Full service incl. transport for $20-30. Also really nice having local guys help getting DPVs, bailouts etc in and out of the water for a 100-metre dive.

You are genuinely missing out. Indonesia is a wonderful place to dive and the guides can be very unobtrusive.

Your loss if you want to pass on, perhaps, the best diving on the planet since you can't dive solo? To each their own....
