I recently purchased a Suuno Mosquito. I also bought a connection cable through eBay. Very cool cable! It uses a standard DB-9 serial connector on one and and a standard Ethernet jack (RJ-45) on the other end. Costs $20.00. There are currently two listings on eBay. See item number: 7112284051 for one of them.
Anyway, everything works just fine on a Windows PC using a Keyspan USB/Serial adapter (19-HS). Next, I tried iDive on my Mac (OS X 10.3.5, 1GB RAM, 1.4GHz G4...). iDive keeps giving me a communications error. I was unable to find any setting that would allow me to adjust the transmission speed or any other serial setting. The Keyspan utility recognizes the adapter.
So, next, I installed SDM 1.6 in Windows XP under VirtualPC 6.1.1. No luck. Windows XP would connect to the USB/Serial adapter and disconnect a second or so later. This would repeat itself over and over again.
Called Keyspan technical support: They told me they don't support VirtualPC. Said there are timing issues.
So, basically, the only way to get what I have working is to use a PC. I wonder how Jose got his Mosequito to work with his Mac? Jose: could you tell us what setup you were using? What version of MacOS? What serial adapter etc.?
I also e-mail Suunto. They responding by saying they are thinking about releasing the transfer protocol (so that someone else could write a Mac program), but that no decision had been made.
Boy, this shouldn't be this difficult...
Anyone else would like to share their experiences?
Have a great everyone!
Andre
