HI All,
I am interested in a Socorro Liveaboard. How many companies do it and when is the best time ? I would be going either Easter or christmas.
Thanks in advance.

There are lots of choices :
Rocio Del Mar, Solmar V, Nautilus Explorer, Sea Escape, Southern Sport...
It depends on what you are going after, mid January to mid April I think is the prime time for humpbacks. For Whale Shark I think it is November and December.

This Easter? They're probably all sold out - I know Rocio is for the rest of their Socorro itineraries this year. It's a popular trip.

We just finished a trip on the Rocio del Mar (report in preparation). They told me March was a very good time to be out there, both for whales and for good weather. We certainly had excellent conditions for diving.

I can't say enough good things about the boat and the crew. It's an extremely professional operation, very conscious of safety, with a crew which is not only good at their jobs, but smile the entire time. And the food was fabulous!

Thanks everyone. So TS andM. What was the actual diving like ?

I just returnded from socorros with rocio del mar. (march 7-15)

roca partida : schools of 60-100 hammerheads , also galapagos, white tips, silkys at the same dive
san benedicto: 5 to 7 mantas with us 2 of 3 times at "el boiler".
at "the canyon", hammerheads at 10 ft in one dive.
humback whales at the surface all the trip . One person in our group saw one at 80ft below (has video ). i missed it!

All the dives where awsome, always something (mantas, sharks, octopus, big tunas, whatever) . also the crew of rocio del mar.
food: excellent.

I did Nautilus Explorer two years ago in November. We had mantas lined up and doing the aquatic equivalent of an aircraft "touch and go". That was my third trip on NE in 10 years.
