Hello- I’ll be heading to So Cal for some relatively speaking warm water diving. I’m in a conference for a few days staying in Garden Grove and would like to fill any additional time with dives. I’ll bring all my own gear and am looking for Nitrox rentals from a reputable dive shop. I dove this past weekend in Whittier, Alaska with water temp 37F, air temp at low 40’s and visibility at 30-50’. I look forward to some warmer water and mild weather. I consider myself a conservative diver. I’m happy anywhere from 40-80’ max depth and am quite content looking at all the critters. I’ve signed up for ScubaLaurel’s Encore’s bug hunt (really just to see the lobsters underwater and be a part of the dive group) on 03/12-03/13—yippee! I’ll be attending a SOCDC meeting at Fuddrucker’s on Wed 03/09. I’ve got some open time and would like to dive with locals familiar to the area. Not too keen on the Catalina Express since I can only bring one tank.

I’m looking for So Cal dive buddies for the following;

Sunday afternoon/evening/night dive (shore or boat) 03/06
Monday night dive (shore) 03/07
Tuesday night dive (shore) 03/08
Thursday all day – 03/10 Any boat dive suggestions?
Friday morning dive (shore) 03/11

I would recommend DCI for boatdiving....give them a call. Los Coronados has the best vis at the moment. We had between 30-50ft last weekend.

check ebay for dci's specials, you can get a coronados or yukon trip for dirt cheap

Check out the dive boats on your day...

You are pretty close to Long Beach, and about the same distance to Ventura as to San Diego... I'd probably head out to Catalina (boat dive) or Anacapa... Find something that works for you... Sounds like you have the shore diving covered, but it's in Laguna... Maybe La Jolla Shores for a good canyon dive or Point Dume...

Here's the dive boat listings:

Enjoy!

Wish I could join you, but our schedules aren't matching. Though you should be in for some good diving starting Sunday, after this storm passes.

Hey Crista,
Very glad you're coming with us on March 11-12th (we board Friday night by 10 pm, leave at 11pm) and get back Saturday nigth about 6-7pm.

I wouldn't leave the Catalina Express out of the question. It isn't a dive boat, it is a ferry from the mainland to Catalina Island. There is a shop called Scubaluv on the island that does nitrox fills and rentals, so you don't need to drag your tank over to the islnad at all. Just get it there. Conditions don't look so good for this weekend, but look at a boat dive on SUnday. I agree with the recommendation of heading up to Ventura and diving Anacapa or Santa Cruz. I think the Peace has a weekday deal, too, on Wednesdays and Thursdays...help me out folks, am I right, there?

If conditions get better, I'd be up for a Thursday night dive in Laguna.

Sea you soon!
