Yup, yours truly!
While flying off of the Long Beach break wall at 5000' i look down to see the ocean churning with some sort of excitement. I circled down to a lower altitude to watch what turned out to be a whale of a tail coming out of the water to splash the water about every 20 seconds. This thrashing activity was interrupted by the whale surfacing for air. We watched for at least 15 minutes and it was one of the most amazing things I have ever had the privilege to see!
Now the question is, could this have been a blue whale? I seemed very very large (bigger than the 'what i believed to be grey whales' that i have seen). It had a uniform deep blue color to it and had a thick body in relation to the tail fin. The pictures that I looked up seemed to indicate it was a blue but what else could it have been?
