I will be in Temecula over Christmas and will get only one day of diving (grandkids think they should have priority for some reason). That will be Friday, Dec 21. I would like to dive a wreck or kelp, but do not want to spend 2 hours or more on a boat to get to the boat that will take me to the dive site.

Background on me: DM (if I pass my IE on Dec 8-9, OWSI before the trip), 100+ logged, asst mgr at LDS, regulator tech. I have Dry-suit, semi-dry, double, single, whatever gear is needed I have or can get. I have done cold fresh and warm sea water. I need the experience of cold sea water. Don't know a lot, but I know enough to listen to the local experts!

What can you do from La Jolla Shores? Is there a nearby place that is better? Has anyone ever been diving with Ocean Express? Where should I look for boat diving from the San Diego area?

Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Anthony

Doublesdiver,

There are great wreck dives out of San Diego within 30 minute travel times on the boats. Here is a link to the Lois Ann dive boat's listing of local dive sites. I was on this boat last March and it was a great trip. You'll just have to put up with the traffic into Mission Bay from Temecula. Also, SeaWorld is in Mission Bay so you can drop off the clan there and meet up with them later... best of both worlds.

I agree with Joel.

Anthony,

I'm right down the road from Temecula. There are several guys here that live in and around the IE (inland empire or north of San Diego.) Send me a note before you make it out here to SoCal. I'll be up for a Friday dive. Also check out: Marissa Dive Charters Welcome! Capts. Anita and Carl were former crew on the Lois Ann and are cool people.
