Yea. I had the same problem with the battery. It would show 2 bars and then all of a sudden would go red and turn off, never having hit one bar. I upgraded my firmware so I hope that it will take care of some of my problems. I expect some learning curve but having the flash not fire in the "external flash" mode, shouldn't be one of them.
By the way, what is with the incredibly slow recycle time of the digital strobe????? Even with rechargable 2500MAh batteries it takes about 13-15 seconds. You have to be really good at getting your first shot as it will be too late to take another one!!!
At this point, I like my DC310 with the regular strobe MUCH better than the DC500. I am waiting to hear back from SeaLife if there is something I can do to fix things.
