My gear is used in the pool once a week and it discolours fairly quickly. My booties rooted after about 2 years.

I think chlorine is a lot worse for rubber than salt.

Edit:- Thats with rinsing. It'll get it eventually no matter what.
 
The pool is tough on the gear but oh well it is so much fun it is worth it. I think of it like tires on my car. They can either rot in the carport or rot while I am out having a good time riding around. I want to wear my gear out using it. I have bought used gear that has been in a closet that was rotted from lack of use....

Anyway, you do it. It's gear, it needs to be pool tested, you need the practice, so if it fades - you look salty. Just rinse it.
