Does anyone ever just go to Joe's to go snorkeling? I want to get my wife used to the water temperature before we do our OW checkout dives. Was thinking about going snorkeling so she would at least feel comfortable with the temperature to take one more thing out of the equation when she does the checkout.

Sure, there are a couple of good shallow places to snorkel. Thats where most of the fish are anyway. I think Joe may even have a different price for snorkeling.

Several of us have done it over on Pebble Beach. I think JP is right, Joe has a lower rate for snorkeling.

He charges less for swimmers, "floaters," the swim beach area would be good for snorkeling and warmer too!

And, Welcome to ScubaBoard and the KPP!!!

Whats all the fuss about shallow water. You can snorkel in water 7 miles deep. Might not see much but its still snorkeling:D

Actually if you take her to Joe's for some snorkeling, which I think is a great idea, I would encourage her to move out of the shallow water areas and into the deeper areas as she becomes comfortable with everything. Clearly she won't see anything, but that would be the whole point of this part of the exercise. It would give her an introduction to being in a no visual reference environment even though there is plenty of light. Some people find this somewhat un-nerving when diving.

Thanks everyone. We will be out there floating around tomorrow. I hope she has fun and I do plan on going into the deeper water. She got cold snorkeling in an 82f pool with only her swimsuit on so I hope we are able to come up with something that will get her certified before we go to Hawaii the first part of June.

Oh man I don't ever want to see a "floater" in any quarry that I am diving in. That is what those green houses are for. :D

Well, my wife and I were "floaters" today. Hope we didn't ruin the neighborhood. Was able to see quite a bit of stuff and she was able to stay warm in a 3.0m wetsuit so I think with a hood and a core warmer over that she should be okay to get the checkout on the platform.

Joe's is really nice and the water was a lot clearer than I imagined it would be! Met Joe and he is nice too.

Can't wait till these "floaters" get to sink.

Thanks for the advice.

Darn Frank, I thought you were going out Sunday! I saw you two from across the quarry today! Sorry we did not have the opportunity to meet. I'm glad everything worked out for you all. Are you planning on coming out to the pig roast on the 2nd?

Yes, my wife and I will be at the pig roast next Saturday.

I thought about going over to pebble beach and seeing if there were any KPP people there but didn't know if "divers" would associate with "floaters". :no
