When I started diving about 6 years ago, I never thought I would enjoy snorkeling again....however, last Feb 2010 I was in Donsol, Philippines to view the Whale Sharks there.
Diving is not allowed with the Whale Sharks and it's also not practical since the equipment makes swimming along with their pace much harder. I was in the water with the Whale Sharks multiple times during our 3 hour excursion and it was one of the most amazing times of my life.
Another great spot in the Philippines for snorkeling was El Nido, Palawan. It's the only time I could say that I was able to see as much cool marine life while snorkeling as I normally do during a dive. Unfortunately, the weather turned on me the next day so I wasn't able to do a dive and compare the experiences.
