How do you hookup the snoopy loop to the bcd strap for the backup light.

If you just feed the strap through the snoopy loop when setting up rig, then when you pull the light out the snoopy loop will be loose enough to slide down the strap.

If you tie an overhand knot in the snoopy loop to hold the light then how do you attach the snoopy loop to the strap?

I clicked on this post because I didn't know what a "snoopy loop" was and wanted to find out more. I just looked it up and I find that it is a term used for the typical "innertube" band that is around a BC harness.

So I guess you are asking about the loop that is at the "bottom" of the light and into which the light head tucks to keep it from swinging around?

I don't feel experienced enough to advise, but just as a data point: On my harness all of the various innertube loops are the same diameter (and came with the harness). They fit about as tightly around the webbing as they can without being so tight/small that they distort the webbing when they are just sitting there doing nothing.

I'll be interested to see what experienced divers say.

Take an inner tube that has a diameter of about 2in when it's squished flat to the ground. (Most webbing is 2in in diameter, this is why most "snoopy loops" are too)
Cut it thin/thick enough so you can manipulate it with gloves hands. You want to cut it so it's still a round O.
I usually cut it at least 0.5in in height.

ie. Inner tube w/ 2in of inner diameter
Cut out a 0.5in section so that I now have a section of inner tube:
0.5in in height, 2in in diameter

Next you want to disconnect your BC strap or unweave it from your backplate. Now weave your strap through the middle of your round O of inner tube. Reconnect or weave your strap back into your BC/backplate and you're done.

If you selected the right diameter size of inner tube, you're snoopy loop will stay in place more of less when it's not securing anything. Even if it does slip down you'll be able to slide it back up with ease, no need to pinch or grab it.
If you cut it to the right height you'll be able to manipulate it with ease even with your gloves on.
