My dive computer is going to be sent back to Uwatec to get its battery replaced, because of the number of times it has been turned on, no dives yet, just turned on. I have indeed tried contact as well as three inches up to twelve inches away from receiver with the same results. The PC and Uwatec talk then the infrared button disappears from the tool bar and Smart Trak software states “not connected to Uwatec dive computer”. AHHHHHHHHH

Going to order an Uwatec USB infrared, I had tried Uwatec serial, laptops infrared port as well as an aftermarket USB. Just have to stop by my LDS sometime and order because, Joe at Scuba Toys stated they will no longer be carrying any Uwatec gear, they were the first ones I called.

PacificFlyer:
I have had my Smartcom for over 2 years and have an old Dell Insiron 8000 with built in IRDA and it works fine. I have to open the plastic protector cover and set the dive computer on its side. I also get it about 3-5 inches from the IRDA on my laptop. Open the software and be be sure to turn on the dive computer by bridging the E and B contacts, then either click Transfer Dives under the Dives menu or click Dive Computer Settings under the Options menu. You will get a small window called IrDa Monitor and it looks like a little flashlight moving around, it will disappear once you get a connection. Good Luck

I've had to do the same thing only I put them about 1-2 inches apart. I bought a generic IRDA at Fry's Electronics for about $30 and it works fine.

I have found that sometimes another program can be running that claims the communication port and the program has to be stopped before you can communicate using the expected program. Hope this makes sense.

I had the same problem as most of you and I too bought the Uwatec IR device and it did not work. So I ordered the IR Mate 410W that is suggested on the ScubaPro/Uwatec Website and now it works just fine.....

Hey tribaltim, was there any settings that you needed to do for your IR Mate to work? I was stationed at Camp Schwab in the 80’s.

Here is the resolution to my particular situation.

MacAfee Issue

The email scan function of MacAfee virus protection blocks the communication from your dive computer to your PC. The instructions below will tell you how to circumvent the issue.

Hit “CTRL-ALT-Delete” on your keyboard. A menu will pop up; select the “Task Manager” tab. Then, from the “Task Manager” window, select the “Processes” tab.
Now look down the list of processes and find the one labeled “McVsescn.exe”. Click on this process and end it, ignoring the Windows warning about ending it.

Your SmartTrak should now work. Go directly to your SmartTrak program and attempt to download the dive computer. If it doesn’t work, try it a couple more times, experimenting with different positioning of the dive computer and IR reader. We found that getting dive computer within ½ inch of the reader works the best. If after a couple tries and it still doesn’t work- Contact 1-800-382-2211 SCUBAPRO UWATEC Tech Support Monday – Friday 8-5 Pacific Standard time. Please be sitting at your computer when you call.

Be advised, the Process you ended is the MacAfee virus scan for email and the PC should be re-booted prior to viewing email. Rebooting will bring back the Process and protect your PC from emailed viruses, but remember to end that Process each time prior to downloading your dive computer.

Happy downloading!
