Has anyone tried swapping out valves on those small medical oxygen tanks and using them as pony bottles?
It would seem to me that they work work great, especially for nitrox since they were filled with nearly 98% oxygen to begin with.

Why bother? Similar sized ponies are about the same price. Besides the fact that the valve threads are a different size.
3/4 - 14 for Scuba and 3/4 - 16 for O2.

I was asking because I have access to medical O2 bottles at no cost.
Oh well, it was an idea.

Back some 30+ years ago we used O2 steel bottles, but they all had ½” tapered pipe threads, the same as many Scuba tanks. I don’t think the newer O2 cylinders have neck thread sizes that are compatible with Scuba valves, but I may wrong.

If you can get them for free, IMO it is worth looking further into it.

Good luck

Most of the small Alum. O/2 tanks are rated 2000psi.
And have different threads.
But if you have a good sorce of tanks I suggest that you swap or donate them to
Dive clubs, Boats, Dive locations, or People in your local area that could use extra bottles of O/2
for dive emergencys.
I,ve done this in the past. The more O/2 on site the better.

The threads on these tanks are 3/4"-16
Not sure what tank valve would fit these.
Still, they'd be perfect size for Pony bottles or bottles for SASY use.
