I was entranced by this Redband Parrotfish during a recent dive in Key Largo. My question concerns the other fish pictured, however. I've never seen a remora that small before. Is it a juvenile remora? just a small remora? or another species of sucker entirely?

The parrot is only about 6in long, so the sucker is 3 or less i would say.

Thanks!

Looks like a young sharksucker. Have seen similar events with other fish, including stoplight parrot. Always fascinating.

While I do agree that it is an Echeneis (Sharksucker), at that size it is nearly impossible to distinguish beween Echeneis naucrates and Echeneis neucratoides, I have seen both with varying amounts of white on the fins. The only way to distinguish is by dorsal and anal fin counts and by dorsal laminae count
