I've got one of these and used to use it alot before I got a bigger vehicle.

They are great for large bulky items such as gear bags or coolers.
I don't know if I'd put tanks on them for saftey reasons.
I've also used it for carrying a smoker, grill, or push lawn mower.

You can get them from Harbor Freight for much cheaper though.

I've seen some of these that are enclosed also. and lockable.
But that really restricts the access to the rear of your vehicle,
so some of them swing away. But expect to pay big bucks for those.

Great links, thanks.

Trying to figure out a way to carry my gear in my RX-8 :)

I used to use one for deer hunting. They have plusses & minuses, depending on the use.

I agree, I would not put tanks on one. But they can be useful.

I dove with a guy last year who showed up in a fairly small car. He had just gone ahead & set up a small utility trailer for his gear. Had mounts on it to hold his tanks securely. Said he prefered towing it bc he could put all his gear in it, no worried about wet (especially salt water wet) gear inside the vehicle, it was a simple solution.

Northern Hydraulics also sells trailer kits for people who want to build them, and I think carriers such as this.
