I tried to clarify that with the "for me" and I'll dive air to 40m/130ft if I have to and will push 32% to a PO2 of 1.6 which is 40m if I have to for some reason. The coast of NC has ean 30 banked for that reason as well, but if I'm going that deep I don't want to have to deal with NDL's so deco is on the docket anyway. Part of why I advocate for anyone planning on regularly diving deeper than 60-80ft to take an AN/DP or more preferably ART/DP class so the "time pressure" of NDL's goes away as well as the stress if you accidentally break NDL's it removes the scariness of it that seems to be propagated by most of the industry

That's because you're trimix certified.....

It's also because he lives/dives in an area where helium is accessible and (relatively) cheap. ;)

I use a 24% mix quite frequently... it's ideal for a couple of aircraft wrecks we have here. Trimix would quintuple (or more...) the cost per dive... and the dives are very benign.

In full disclosure my own -dive agency- EAN certification consisted of reading the manual, writing questions and analyzing two tanks.... all in all I was 25 minutes start to finish including my credit card info.... slightly scary what the minimum standard is.

The standards you describe here are not PADI standards for their EA course. I'm assuming you were PADI nitrox certified, because PADI requires that for an instructor to self-certify as a nitrox instructor. But if what you describe here is how your PADI EA course was conducted, your instructor might have cut a few corners.
