SL960D not firing under water

Sorry but the fiber optic cable is not set up correctly at the camera end. With the flash there should have been a half dome piece with a clear ring of velcro. The fiber optic cable need to be inserted into that and then this whole piece attached infront of the cameras flash. Do you have the half dome piece?

I am not in the office yet but when I get in, I will send some pics of how it should look like.

That is the problem with firing under water. We will also need to get you to cut the cable at that end so that none of the clear fiber is showing.

I bought the strobe second-hand and it didn't have the clear ring of Velcro. Is that something I can buy as a spare part? I believe the strobe was originally part of the DC500 package, so when I got it, it had the "ring" to attach it to that housing, but not the Velcro piece.

Joe - Thanks much! I'm diving next week in NC and will be testing the strobe. The connection looks good and it is firing fine above water. Underwater will be the test!

Thanks so much Joe! Flash is working much better with the new set-up. It is firing every time. Took pictures while diving off Nags Head. A few of them were definitely too "hot" even on the lowest setting.

Would the diffuser help with this?

Good news that it is working. Now you want to make sure you have adjusted the auto brightness inside the flash head as it looks like you need to turn it down. Do you have the instructions still? It explains the process in there for adjusting auto brightness.

Yes the diffuser will help out some with the wshing out.

Thanks again Joe. I have attempted to adjust the brightness with the knob on the OUTSIDE of the flash head. I don't see any adjustment options INSIDE.

Following the instructions, I adjusted the knob, but my test firings all seem to be the same. I had it turned all the way down, but was still getting over exposed on some shots.

These pictures look a 100% better. There isn't much taken close/macro so hard to see if it is overflashing or not. The exposure on most of these shots look dead on.

The adjustment I meant is inside the head on the right side. It is a slide switch that has 4 settings, 1 - 4. This is the brightness setting.

I don't think my flash has those settings, the only switch is the "pre-flash" switch. Remember, I have the SL960D, not the newer pro flash. Although I did find some useful information in that manual that is not in the older manual.
