I'm thinking about getting certified, and I've got several friends who make it very tempting...Just wondering about your thoughts, because the two sports don't exactly get along in logistical terms..

Your poll does not have enough options.

I went skydiving - non-tandem, once. I was not willing to go tandem or static-line (another option missing from your poll) - it was solo freefall or not at all. Took a long time to find a place that would let me do it, but I eventually did. Was $300 or so for a single jump. It was OK, I'm glad I did it. But I don't need to do it again. I packed parachutes for the airforce - it was nice to finally get the chance to actually use one (:

Agreed poll doesn't offer enough options. Not sure it is even relevant to what you are wanting to know? :dontknow:

You will find a great many SB'ers skydive. Another popular thing, I've noticed, seems to be flying. Personally, once I really got into my scuba diving the skydiving fell to the wayside. Skydiving just doesn't hold the same passion for me.... Though it is fun - it is different. I also love the silence of the deep.

Another thought and it is just my opinion is that there is so much more bang for your buck in scuba diving. You can have that 2 minute rush with sky diving or that hour or so scuba dive. Further scuba brings me a lot closer to people than skydiving did and I can see and experience so much more.

I have a friend on here, Scott5644, that has a different view. I will pm him your thread.

btw, fwiw, I have done 14 +/- skydives. All tandem - no laughing ;) I've been out of the plane every which way possible. Once I was even allowed to fly the plane for a bit :) :)

I used to jump until my son turned 12 and he was able to start diving with me. Now I focus the time with him.

Keep in mind it is a very addictive sport, just like diving. I miss it. Maybe when my son turns 18, this will give us something else to do toghether.

I see you are from SoCal. Perris Valley is a great DZ. You can't go wrong with the bar and restaurant also.

I say go for it! And have some fun for me!!

Where is the option for @#$% no!!! I was talking to a skydiver once about scuba diving, which he seemed to be leary of. I finally told him that if something goes wrong in either sport, we're both going to end up at the surface, but I like my chances better coming from the bottom up, rather than top down.

I've done more skydive (263) vs. SCUBA diving ..... two totally differant sports. Skydiving is more a young single person's thing (though there is still alot of 40+ still diving) and SCUBA seems to have more 30-60+ divers.... skydiving is more of a short rush thing and SCUBA is more for those that love to enjoy life.... both have risks.... skydiving hurts more when you don't time things right and/or mess up. I have not done any skydives since SCUBA certified but I'm sure I will do it again someday...just now, I'm addicted to SCUBA and able to take a dive into the underworld instead of "flying like a rock".

Your poll does not have enough options.

Yup... gotta' agree.

USED to jump... many, many years ago... not quite as immortal now as I once was... :coffee: ... always though that doing a "para-scuba" jump/dive would be cool... never did it though.

How about this option?

[*] I'd love to try it, just never had the opportunity.

I did a jump once just to see what it was like. Over the Swiss Alps, was very pretty :) It was fun and all, but I could see myself getting bored with it if I did it as a hobby so I haven't skydived since. I think if I travelled somewhere nice again and it was an option I'd give it ago again.

I got my A License (both BPA and USPA) and been jumping for around 4 years. Its the reason I quit Scuba initially as good weather weekends are few and far between in UK so I had a choice - do I spend it under the (cold) water or in the air - I chose the air!

By rights I should be far beyond A license by now but i guess my jumping was sporadic in the UK due to weather and not owning my own rig. Both are sorted now - got a custom made Mirage with Sabre 2 170 and I live in the sun! B License soon maybe ;)

If you want to do it, do it - its a great hobby but will eat cash and time. Its easy to spend a whole day at the DZ and only get in 1 or 2 jumps due to wait times etc - its not uncommon (for me at least) to have been there a full weekend and got 1 jump in.

Go for the AFF course, not static line IMHO - much better course.
