So on this last trip of mine to Barbados, I got a bunch of bites or rashes or something that no one's been able to diagnose. The interesting thing about them is that they occur in a line. For example, mid forearm, a line of bumps, maybe 2-3mm in diameter and about 1cm apart, that wrapped 3/4 way around (but many are shorter). They were sorta itchy, but not too much, and after two weeks, they've sorta mostly healed, with the exception of a few that have become small blisters. They're only on my skin that wasn't neoprene covered (was wearing a shorty), though none on my face -- forearms and calf mostly. They start out as a very red, slightly swollen irritation that resolves itself into discrete bumps after a couple of days.

One theory is that they're a reaction to touching some sort of filament-type critter.

Any ideas anyone? I hope I'm not harboring lavae or something gross like that...

Hi simonk999,

Guessing soley based on the pattern & nature of the lesions you describe, I'd say you ran into a jellyfish of some sort.

Not a whole lot to be done now as long as the sores are resolving & not especially bothersome. Any signs of worsening or infection would provide a basis to seek dermatological attention.

Heal quickly.
