Hello everyone,

I signed up for a open water certification course and want to buy my fins and such. I have read up on different fins and Jet fins look to be a solid investment. I am looking for help on some questions about beginner diving equipment. The XXL Jet fins would be a solid buy? Do I need boots with these and if so, what do you recommend for a size 15? Should I buy a mask and snorkel generic set or look for a better quality pair? Thanks ahead of time for any help you guys can give me.

With feet that size do you even need fins?

Okay, now that I've gotten that off my chest, a lot of people find using Converse Allstars (aka Chuck Taylor's) work well as boots for diving if you're not looking for warmth. You might be able to find some standard neoprene booties in that large a size but I've never seen them. Check out the folks at wetsuitwearhouse.com and see if they can help you find something.

The Jets are considered good fins by an awful lot of folks so I don't think you'll go wrong buying them.

I have size 14 shoes. With my drysuit boots, which are very large, I need the XXL Jetfins. The XL fins are fine with wetsuit boots. The foot pocket on the XXL is huge.

I have an 8.5 shoe size, and I use a 9 boot size. I think a +1 would be safe. As for Jet Fin size, my correct Jet Fin size is XL, so you're at least an XXL. I'd suggest asking to try out some rental Jet Fins as well as rental boots before committing on a purchase. Some people have wider feet and/or other unique features. Your feet are extremely large too.

No point in buying something that doesn't fit well with your diving style and your foot size. Who knows? Maybe another style of fins might fit your diving style.

Thanks for the help guys. I am going to tomorrow to the Undersea Divers tomorrow in Beverly to fill out the paperwork beforehand. I will ask them about getting fitted and such. Maybe they have the specific gear there. I will update tomorrow what I find out. Thanks again.

nothing wrong with Jets. FWIW - the foot pocket in the Hollis F-1 (XXL) in enormous. My 13 Rockboots were flopping around in them.

Yes you need booties or some sort of footwear with Jet fins.
Bare feet and neoprene socks won't cut it, the footpocket of Jet fins are very square and will really put a hurting on bare feet.

It would be best to buy your bootie first then try on a pair of Jet fins, to get the sizing right. A Size XL may work with a soft sole-medium sole bootie. If you get a hard sole then this could impact your fitting, so it's really important to size in person when buying Jet fins.

Have you looked at other types of Jet fins out there. If you can't try on a pair in person then you might have a better guess at the other choices.

@g1138, tomorrow I am going to the scuba shop and I will try on boots and fins and such.

I was looking at these two boots on Amazon,
[h=1]NeoSport Wetsuits Premium Neoprene 5+7mm Hi Top Zipper Boot[/h]
Amazon.com: NeoSport Wetsuits Premium Neoprene 5mm Hi Top Zipper Boot: Clothing

http://www.amazon.com/NeoSport-Wets...LFYK/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1337979345&sr=8-5

I figured a 5 MM would be fine for the water, cold or warm, but a 7 MM would be better for New England.

Would these work with Jet fins or do you think I should go with something more heavy duty?

Ditto on the Hollis F-1's...I wear a 14 and the XXL's were way too big...Went to the XL's and still had room, but they fit much better....Check out the different brands of boots...Only a few make 14-15 sizes....Most stop at 12-13...There are custom makers if you need it......

I have size 11feet, and wear the XXL Jet Fins with my drysuit rock boots, or my 3mil Booties.

Make sure you get spring straps, you'll thank me later for this suggestion...
