Hi,
I have been given the option of having sinus surgery to remove scar tissue and open up my sinuses. I do get sinus infections during the summer and am allergic to just about all the plants where I live. Yes, moving would solve the allergy problem, but that isnt an option right now. Has anyone had sinus surgery? How would this affect diving?

Well,.. there are no guarantees, as each person is unique, but I had something similar done. Now, I had it done before I started diving, so I can't say what it would have been like before. I had an excess build- up or tissues in the back of my nasal cavity that caused severe headaches & infections when my allergies would act up. After the surgery, my headaches were reduced from 3-4 severe headaches a month to one every 2-3mos. I haven't regretted it a bit. I can say now, that I have had no problems with sinus squeeze or equalizing my ears. The best thing would be to consult your physician about your prospects. Of course, you'll probably be out of the water for a month or 2 during recovery. Only you & your Doctor can decide what is best.
