Sunday I went diving at 1000 ft altitude in freshwater. The first dive was fine. Right after the dive I went to help unsnag some fishing line in water that turned out to be 20 ft down. I came up too fast not realizing I was as far down as I was. Lesson learned - always come up slow regardless where you think you are. I had a bloody nose, but it stopped almost immediately.

Fast forward to Monday and I have what appear to be classic sinus squeeze symptoms. I checked the web and the symptoms of pain in and around the cheek and teeth ring especially true. I was told by a nurse to take some Sudafed and would be fine. I took another allergy drug and the pain went away almost immediately.

Pain returns again today, take another dose of drug and it goes away again.

From what I have read, this should clear up in a few days. Is that so?

Any other thoughts on this. Time to seek more medical help?

Thanks.

Hi iridiumjd,

The onset and nature of the symptoms, along with their response to an otherwise unspecified allergy medication, appear quite consistent with minor barotrauma to the maxillary sinus.

Continued short-term use of an allergy medication that reduces swelling and discomfort should provide symptomatic relief until the condition resolves.

Should the condition not improve, or become worse, timely examination by physician is indicated.

Helpful?

It is helpful. i will continue to monitor and if the symptoms keep coming back every day, then I will seek medical advice.

Don't worry, i saw this as helpful information and in no way implied a doctor patient relationship. Just someone with more experience helping me out.
