I taught several crew members of the Vandy to dive back in the late 70's when she was based at Port Canaveral. We are going to try have reunion in Key West when she goes down

I'm sure it'll be too much to hope that it'll be sunk by next summer when we're planning our next trip to the Keys. ;)

It was supposed to be sunk in 2002, then 2003, but it's never even been towed down yet.

I'd bet money it won't get sunk this summer if it hasn't even been towed. They don't want to keep a boat there that big too long above the water w/o a working propulsion system come hurricane season.

BTW... the sinking of the Oriskany has been delayed to next summer now also.

Yea, bummer about the oriskany. I can't see that one (oriskany) landing any other way than on its side so that it's at a 45* angle. I mean, the keel of the ship looks pretty darned narrow compared to that flight deck.

Still, I can't wait to dive it. I wonder what it's going to look like under the water with all of the flight deck removed...
