Thanks, I think we're going to stick to the Casino Point dive site. I'll have to make a decision regarding the taxi thing.

Can we get a taxi cart ride from ScubaLuv to the dive site, and a return ride back to ScubaLuv? I think we can walk to ScubaLuv from the boat slip since our bags will only weigh maybe 10 lbs.

No taxis :-( You can rent a cart for $10 from Scub Luv for the extra stuff (this is what we do). Even with roller bags, it can be a long haul but unless you arrange to have your gear taken to the point at the Cat Express launch it's really the only way.

By cart you mean golf cart right? You mean I can arrange to have someone pick me up in the cart, and then I can use it for the entire day for just $10. That's a great deal.

Thx

you really do not need to stop at Scuba Luv if you are diving at the park, there is a dive shop at the dive park that has everything you need. take a taxi from the Catalina express straight to the dive park. or just walk, you can walk there in 15 minutes or less.

Nope, push cart. It depends on how much you need to rent gear wise. I just like the Scuba Luv folks, and like to give them my business (I have no financial relationship with them). :-)

Hi Brian,

Cost wise, it will cost you the same whether you and your gf take the Catalina Express over to Avalon or take a charter.

At first glance, it looks like it would be cheaper to dive Casino Point. But after you take in your boat ride over, rental of gear and/or tanks, air fills, food, ect. It averages to be about the same.

The ONLY dive company that offers free DM escorts on their charters is Reefseekers http://www.Reefseekers.com You other options would be to hire a DM or...take a 'Discover Local Diving' from Scuba Luv which might be your best bet, especially if you haven't dove kelp before. I think too, diving kelp from Casino Point might be less taxing than that off of a boat and you can 'ease' into it. In any case, be sure to have a dive knife with you and/or scissors. Remember too, that kelp 'snaps' in half if you get caught.

Just my .o2 cents worth.

Oh, I might add, there are lots of cool stuff to see within the dive park. My favorite being the swim platform (looks like a mini oil rig) underneath with lots of growth and marine life. There is a resident Moray that lives in one of the pipes. Watch too for lots of other critters including Nudibranchs and possibly Giant Black Sea Bass.

Thanks everyone. I'm not really too concerned about cost, despite my comments earlier. I just want to maximize the day for the money. I think spending the day on Avalon will be most enjoyable for my g/f.

I think taking a discover local diving thing would be a good idea for the first dive. Does scubaluv have a schedule for that or do I just need to call them? What do those typically cost?

Thanks
